Reed Smith LLP is an international law firm founded in Pittsburgh in 1877 by Philander C. Knox and James H. Reed, with a lineage also tracing to an 1842 Philadelphia firm founded by Joseph B. Townsend. Grown substantially through mergers beginning in the 1970s, the firm now has more than 1,500 attorneys across roughly 31 offices in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, with London now its largest office. Its practice spans mergers and acquisitions, private equity, finance, life sciences and health, energy and natural resources, entertainment and media, and shipping and transportation, and it reported about 1.5 billion dollars in revenue in 2024.
