Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway

The Buffalo Bayou, Brazos and Colorado Railway was chartered by the Texas legislature in February 1850 and organized that June as the first operating railroad in Texas, opening its first segment between Harrisburg and Stafford's Point in 1853 and later extending west to a terminus at Alleyton before the Civil War. After the war it was sold and reincorporated as the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroad, whose right of way was later acquired by the Southern Pacific Railroad and is now owned by Union Pacific Railroad.
