WEG is a Brazilian company operating worldwide in electrical engineering, power and automation technology, founded on 16 September 1961 by Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon Joao da Silva and Geraldo Werninghaus in Jaragua do Sul, where it remains headquartered; the company name is an acronym formed from the first names of its three founders. It produces electric motors, generators, alternators, transformers, turbines, battery energy storage systems, drives and coatings, and provides industrial automation services among other integrated electric system solutions. It operates in around 140 countries with approximately 40,000 employees, and is one of the largest manufacturers of electric motors and associated equipment in the world.
