Chicago and Canada Southern Railway

The Chicago and Canada Southern Railway was an American railroad company, incorporated in Indiana on 19 May 1871 as a planned westward extension of the Canada Southern Railway from Grosse Ile, Michigan, toward Chicago, Illinois, though construction reached only as far as Fayette, Ohio, a 67.6-mile standard-gauge line, before the Panic of 1873 halted further expansion. Leased by the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway in 1879, the company was reorganized as the Detroit and Chicago Railroad in 1888; parts of its route were later absorbed into other railroads, with some sections still in use today as part of Canadian National Railway Flat Rock Subdivision.
