The Hereford Railway was an early horse drawn railway in Herefordshire, England, authorized by the Hereford Railway Act of 1826 and engineered by John Hodgkinson as a single track 3 foot 6 inch gauge line that opened over a 12 mile route in September 1829. The Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway Company purchased the line and its connections in 1846 and replaced them with a standard gauge steam railway, and the original horse drawn tramroad ceased operating in May 1853.
