Surinam Airways

Surinam Airways, known in Dutch as Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij and commonly as SLM, is the flag carrier of Suriname, wholly owned by the Surinamese government and based at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport near Paramaribo. Founded by private entrepreneurs in 1953, it began scheduled domestic flights in January 1955, was purchased by the government in 1962, and received formal flag-carrier status after Suriname's 1975 independence when it began international service to Amsterdam.
