Saunders-Roe Limited, also known as Saro, was a British aerospace and marine-engineering company based at Columbine Works, East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight. The name was adopted in 1929 after Alliott Verdon Roe and John Lord took a controlling interest in the aircraft and boat-builders SE Saunders, whose founder Sam Saunders developed the Consuta material used in marine and aviation craft. The company concentrated on producing flying boats, none in very large quantities, and during World War II it manufactured Supermarine Walrus and Sea Otter aircraft. The infobox records its products as aircraft, helicopters and hovercraft, and that it merged with Westland Aircraft in 1964.
