Nieuport

Industrials

Nieuport, later Nieuport-Delage, was a French aeroplane company that primarily built racing aircraft before World War I and fighter aircraft during World War I and between the wars. It was originally formed as Nieuport-Duplex in 1902 for the manufacture of engine components, re-formed in 1909 as the Societe Generale d'Aero-locomotion, and re-formed in 1911 specifically to build aircraft. After Edouard Nieuport died in 1911 the company was taken over by Henri Deutsch de la Meurthe, and its name was changed to Societe Anonyme des Etablissements Nieuport. The infobox records it as founded in 1908 by Edouard Nieuport, based in Suresnes, France, and merged in January 1937 into SNCAO as its successor.
