John Crown & Sons was a British shipbuilding company founded in 1847 on the River Wear in Sunderland, England, building naval vessels such as frigates and corvettes as well as merchant ships including tugs and colliers. The firm operated independently for a century before it was acquired by J.L. Thompson & Sons in 1947.
