The Aircraft Manufacturing Company Limited, known as Airco, was an early British aircraft manufacturer established in 1912 at The Hyde, Hendon, London. It grew rapidly during the First World War and, by 1918, described itself as the largest aircraft company in the world. It produced many thousands of aircraft for the British and Allied military air wings, the majority designed in-house by its chief designer Geoffrey de Havilland, and it established the first airline in the United Kingdom, Aircraft Transport and Travel Limited, which began the world's first regular daily international service on 25 August 1919. After the war it became unprofitable and was sold to the Birmingham Small Arms Company in 1920, after which its operations were liquidated.
