Alcon Inc. is a Swiss-domiciled eye care company headquartered in Geneva, specializing in contact lenses, ophthalmic surgical equipment, and eye care pharmaceutical products. It originated in 1945 in Fort Worth, Texas, as a small pharmacy founded by Robert Alexander and William Conner, whose surnames combined to give the company its name. Alcon was acquired by the Swiss pharmaceutical company Novartis, already live in this atlas, in stages between 2008 and 2011, before being spun off again as an independent, separately traded public company in April 2019. It is one of the largest eye care device and surgical equipment companies in the world.
