DaVita Inc. is an American health care company headquartered in Denver, Colorado, and one of the largest providers of kidney dialysis services in the United States. It was founded in 1994 as Total Renal Care, Inc. and was renamed DaVita, from the Italian phrase meaning "he/she gives life," in 2000 following a corporate turnaround. DaVita operates a large network of outpatient dialysis centers treating patients with chronic kidney failure and end-stage renal disease, and it competes directly with the already-live Fresenius Medical Care as one of the two dominant dialysis providers in the American market.
