Erie Indemnity Company

Erie Indemnity Company is the managing company of Erie Insurance Exchange, a property and casualty insurance group based in Erie, Pennsylvania that offers auto, home, business and life insurance through a network of independent agents. Erie Insurance Exchange began in 1925 when H.O. Hirt and O.G. Crawford, two salesmen for the Pennsylvania Indemnity Exchange, left to form their own insurance company, officially licensed on April 20, 1925, with Erie Indemnity Company formed as its managing company.
