S&P Global Inc. is an American financial information and analytics company headquartered in New York City, built around Standard & Poor's, the credit ratings and market indices business formed from the 1941 merger of Standard Statistics and Poor's Publishing, the latter tracing to Henry Varnum Poor's nineteenth century railroad reporting. It is best known for the S&P 500 stock market index and for S&P Global Ratings, one of the "big three" credit rating agencies alongside Moody's and Fitch.
