FirstRand Limited

FirstRand Limited is the holding company of FirstRand Bank and a financial services provider based in Johannesburg, described as Africa's largest listed financial services institution. Its roots trace to the Eastern Province Bank, founded in 1838, while the modern FirstRand group was established on April 1, 1998 through a merger of Anglo American Corporation's and RMB Holdings' financial interests; it is licensed by the Reserve Bank of South Africa and listed on both the Johannesburg and Namibian stock exchanges. The group manages over R1.7 trillion in assets under management across Africa, the United Kingdom, and India through its First National Bank, Rand Merchant Bank, WesBank, and Ashburton Investments divisions, and reported operating income of R92.54 billion and net income of R28.24 billion for 2024, under chairman Johan Burger and group CEO Mary Vilakazi.
