Ameris Bancorp

Ameris Bancorp is an American bank holding company headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, whose subsidiary Ameris Bank runs full-service branches across Georgia, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina, with mortgage-only offices reaching into Virginia, Maryland and Tennessee. It was founded on October 1, 1971, in Moultrie, Georgia as American Banking Company by Eugene M. Vereen Jr., who wanted to build a bank for the future rather than rely on tired banking norms, starting from a single branch with 1 million dollars in capital. The company went public in 1987, took the Ameris Bancorp name in 2005 and moved its listing to the New York Stock Exchange in July 2024 under the ticker ABCB, and as of 2024 it held total assets of 26.3 billion dollars and employed about 2,710 people offering personal banking, mortgages, loans and commercial banking with particular expertise in healthcare, agriculture and professional services.
