Plaid Inc. is a financial technology company headquartered in San Francisco, California, founded in May 2013 by Zach Perret and William Hockey. The company builds infrastructure, described as a data transfer network, that lets fintech and digital finance applications connect to bank accounts on behalf of their end users, allowing services such as Venmo and Chime to check balances and move money without building their own banking connections. Plaid operates in seven countries: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ireland and the Netherlands, and reached an 8 billion dollar valuation in its most recent funding round in February 2026 with about 1,200 employees.
