Coutts & Company, usually called Coutts, is a British private bank and wealth manager headquartered on the Strand in London, England. It traces its origin to 1692, when a young Scots goldsmith-banker named John Campbell of Lundie opened a shop on the Strand under the sign of the Three Crowns, as was customary before street numbers existed; the three crowns still appear in the bank's logo and the head office is still on the Strand. That date makes Coutts the seventh oldest bank in continuous operation. After Campbell died in 1712 the business passed through his family, and in 1755 his granddaughter Mary married the merchant and banker James Coutts, who was soon made a partner, which is the source of the name the bank carries today. Coutts now forms part of the wealth management division of NatWest Group. In the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man it operates as Coutts Crown Dependencies, a trading name of The Royal Bank of Scotland International Limited. In 2021 it achieved B-Corp status, becoming only the third UK bank to hold that certification.
