SOCAR, formally the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, is a fully state owned national oil and gas company headquartered in Baku, Azerbaijan, founded on 13 September 1992. It produces oil and natural gas from onshore and offshore fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, operates the country's sole oil refinery and one gas processing plant, manages several oil and gas export pipelines, and runs fuel filling station networks under the SOCAR brand in Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine, Romania, Switzerland and Austria.
