Valero Energy Corporation is an American petroleum refining and marketing company headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, formed in its present focus in 1997 when the original Valero Energy Corporation split its natural gas pipeline business into a separate company and the refining and retail business retained the Valero name. It is the largest independent petroleum refiner in the United States, operating refineries across North America, Europe and the Caribbean along with an extensive network of Valero-branded fuel stations.
