YPF, formerly Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales, is a vertically integrated, majority state-owned Argentine energy company engaged in oil and gas exploration, production, refining and marketing. Founded in 1922 under President Hipolito Yrigoyen, it was the first oil company established as a state enterprise outside the Soviet Union; it was privatized under President Carlos Menem in 1999 and majority renationalized beginning in 2012.
