Rosneft is a Russian state-controlled integrated energy company based in Moscow, engaged in the exploration, extraction, refining, transport and sale of petroleum, natural gas and related products. Founded as a state enterprise in 1993, it became Russia's leading oil company after acquiring the assets of the former oil company Yukos at state-run auctions, and became the world's largest publicly traded petroleum company after acquiring TNK-BP in 2013.
