Parmalat

Parmalat S.p.A. is an Italian dairy and food corporation, now a subsidiary of the French multinational Lactalis. It was founded by Calisto Tanzi in 1961 and became the leading global company in long-life milk produced through ultra-high-temperature processing, before collapsing in 2003 with 14 billion euros of debt in what remains Europe's biggest bankruptcy. Since 2011, and with fuller control since 2019, it has been owned by Lactalis, and today it operates globally with almost 140 production centers and about 16,000 employees, still specializing in UHT milk and derivatives alongside fruit juice brands including Santal.
