Frederick Brewing Company

Frederick Brewing Company, at one point also known as Wild Goose Brewery, was a brewery at the Wedgewood Business Park in Frederick, Maryland, founded around 1992 or 1993 by Marjorie McGinnis, Kevin Brannon, Steve Nordahl and Steven Tluszcz, with its grand opening in February 1997. Built at a cost of several million dollars and considered state of the art, the company was never able to sell more than 11,000 barrels of its Blue Ridge brand annually against an 80,000 barrel capacity, and its stock fell from over six dollars a share on NASDAQ in 1995 to under ten cents by 2002. It was taken over by Snyder International Brewing Group in 1999, placed into receivership around 2002, and purchased by Flying Dog Brewery in 2006, which renamed it Wild Goose Brewery before it eventually became known simply as Flying Dog Brewery. Trade publication Modern Brewery Age has called it the exemplar of the heedless expansion that characterized the 1990s microbrewing boom.
