The Periolat brewery was founded in 1850 by Napoleon Periolat near Chicago, Illinois, though some sources place its founding in 1898 and attribute it to Henry Periolat. It stood across modern day Milwaukee Avenue from the Union Hotel in Wheeling and was among the companies that adopted refrigeration technology to improve its brewing. The brewery operated under the Periolat family until 1905, when it was sold by Robert and Henry Periolat, and it was razed in 1909.
