San Miguel Brewery

San Miguel Brewery, Inc. is the dominant beer producer in the Philippines, tracing its history to 1890 when Enrique Maria Barreto established La Fabrica de Cerveza San Miguel under Spanish royal authorization, with Pedro Pablo Roxas later joining as managing partner and German brewmaster Ludwig Kiene directing production. The business incorporated formally as San Miguel Brewery, Inc. in 1913, was absorbed into San Miguel Corporation in 1963, and was spun off again as a separate subsidiary in October 2007, with Japan's Kirin Holdings acquiring a 48.3 percent stake in 2009. Headquartered at 40 San Miguel Avenue in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, the company held over 95 percent of the domestic beer market as of 2008 with brands including San Miguel Pale Pilsen, San Mig Light and Red Horse Beer, and it also sells across Hong Kong, China, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.
