Soft Drink Industry

Consumer Staples

A soft drink is a beverage containing no alcohol, usually but not necessarily carbonated, and typically sweetened, spanning lemon-lime drinks, orange soda, cola, grape soda, cream soda, ginger ale, and root beer. These products are sold widely through fast food restaurants, movie theaters, convenience stores, casual dining restaurants, and vending machines. PepsiCo and the Coca-Cola Company remain the two largest producers of soft drinks in most regions of the world, while in North America, Keurig Dr Pepper and Jones Soda also hold significant market share. As of 2014, annual average consumption in the United States, at 153.5 liters per person, was about twice that of the United Kingdom at 77.7 liters or Canada at 85.3 liters, though United States per capita consumption peaked in 1998 and has fallen since even as growth continues in emerging markets.
