Union Brewery

Union Brewery was a brewery founded in 1856 by German immigrants Anton Geiger and Simeon Hotz in Iowa City, Iowa, at the corner of North Linn and East Market streets, built in the Italianate style. It made a beer called Grafs Golden Brew, named for brewmaster and later owner Conrad Graf, who played a prominent role in the 1884 Iowa City beer riots against prohibition laws. The brewery operated until Prohibition, when it briefly tried making soda, only for residual yeast to keep fermenting it. The building, connected by an underground tunnel network to two other Iowa City breweries, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 10, 1986.
