Founded in 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria, by former McKinsey consultants, it operates a marketplace, package delivery through local partners, and payment facilitation for online transactions, with partnerships involving more than 100,000 sellers. Jumia became Africa's first unicorn company in 2016 and went public on the New York Stock Exchange in April 2019.
