Nanjing Automobile is a Chinese state owned vehicle maker whose roots lie in a repair workshop of 1947. It built light trucks, cars and buses, and in 2005 it bought the assets of the failed MG Rover Group, including the rights to several old British marques. It merged into the much larger SAIC in 2007, and SAIC now holds the MG, Austin and Morris names that came through the sale. The firm calls itself the oldest of the Chinese automobile manufacturers, though a younger company was the first to make passenger cars.
