GAC Toyota is the Guangzhou based joint venture of GAC Group and Toyota that makes Toyota model platforms for the Chinese market. It was founded on 1 September 2004 as Guangzhou Toyota and began production in May 2006 with the Camry that was based on the Aurion. It began production in May 2006 with a Camry, then added the Yaris in May 2008 and the Highlander in May 2009. It was renamed in December 2008, covers 1.87 million square meters and had more than 6,800 employees in 2010.
