The Winton Motor Carriage Company was a pioneer United States automobile manufacturer based in Cleveland, Ohio. It was one of the first American companies to sell a motor car to the public, which places it among the earliest commercial makers of automobiles in the country. In 1912 the firm also became one of the first American manufacturers of diesel engines, so its work reached beyond passenger cars into engine building. This entry records the company as a maker of early American motor vehicles, so that individual Winton cars can be linked to the firm that built them.
