Sonera was Finland's national telecommunications company before it merged with Sweden's Telia in December 2002 to form TeliaSonera, the company now known as Telia Company after a 2016 rebrand. The merger combined Sonera's Finnish operations with Telia's Swedish business into what became the largest fixed-voice, broadband and mobile operator across the Nordic and Baltic region.
