SoftBank Corp. is a Japanese mobile telecommunications company headquartered in Tokyo, the domestic telecom operating subsidiary of the wider SoftBank Group Corp conglomerate that Masayoshi Son founded as a software distributor in 1981. SoftBank entered mobile telecommunications directly in 2006 by acquiring the Japanese operations of Vodafone, rebranding the network under its own name, and SoftBank Corp was listed separately from its parent SoftBank Group in 2018 to operate as Japan's third major mobile carrier alongside NTT Docomo and KDDI's au brand.
