SK Telecom is South Korea's largest wireless carrier by subscriber share, headquartered in Seoul and operating as the telecommunications flagship of the SK Group conglomerate. It traces its history to 1984 as Korea Mobile Telecommunications Services, was renamed SK Telecom after SK Group took control in the mid-1990s, and built a reputation as an early global adopter of new mobile generations, having launched the world's first commercial CDMA network in 1996 and among the earliest commercial 5G networks in 2019. Beyond core mobile and broadband service, SK Telecom has expanded into content, AI services, and semiconductor and battery interests through its broader SK Group affiliation, and its shares trade on the Korea Exchange with an American Depositary Receipt listing in the United States.
