Ubisoft Entertainment SA is a French video game publisher headquartered in Saint-Mande, near Paris, founded in 1986 by the five Guillemot brothers and grown from a mail-order software distributor into one of the world's largest game publishers with development studios across the world. The company has created long-running franchises including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell, Watch Dogs, Just Dance and Rayman. Ubisoft weathered a prolonged hostile takeover pursuit by the French media conglomerate Vivendi that the Guillemot family and allied shareholders fought off between 2015 and 2018, preserving the company's independence.
