Transocean News Service was a wireless German news agency founded in 1914 and headquartered in Berlin. During the Nazi era it supplied articles, often free or at reduced rates, to newspapers in South America, Asia, and German-language publications in the United States while presenting itself as independent of the German government, and it became notable for transmitting the first public report of the D-Day landings on June 6, 1944, which the Associated Press picked up and distributed to subscribers; its American operations were shut down by the United States government in 1941, and occupying forces closed its Berlin headquarters after Germany's surrender in May 1945.
