Tasnim News Agency is a semi-official Iranian news organization founded on November 11, 2012 and headquartered in Tehran, established by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Hamidreza Moghaddamfar and controlled by the IRGC as its largest owned media outlet. It covers political, social, economic and international subjects in seven languages, including Persian, English, Arabic, Turkish, Urdu, Hebrew and Russian, with a stated mission of defending the Islamic Republic against negative media coverage. The agency was sanctioned by the European Union and United States in September 2023 for human rights violations, including publishing false confessions and identifying protesters.
