Communication Services

Scholastic Corporation is an American multinational publishing, education and media company that publishes and distributes books, comics and educational materials for schools, teachers, parents and children. Its products reach readers through retail and online sales and through schools by way of reading clubs and book fairs. Maurice R. Robinson founded the company in 1920 near Pittsburgh as a publisher of youth magazines, and its first publication, The Western Pennsylvania Scholastic, covered high school sports and social activities. The company entered the book club business in 1948 and began trading on the Nasdaq on May 12, 1987. Robinson's son Richard Robinson served as chief executive and president from 1975 until his death in 2021. Clifford the Big Red Dog, a character created by Norman Bridwell in 1963, serves as the company's mascot, and the group includes imprints such as Graphix, a graphic novel line started in 2005.
