Bhutan News Service (BNS) is an independent news agency run by Bhutanese refugee journalists since 2004 from Kathmandu, Nepal. It is operated solely by refugees, most of whom were born or raised in refugee camps and had no prior media experience; it emerged after more than 100,000 Bhutanese refugees took shelter in United Nations administered camps in the Jhapa and Morang districts of eastern Nepal and felt the need for a voice for the refugee community.
