Allgemeiner Deutscher Nachrichtendienst

Allgemeiner Deutscher Nachrichtendienst, known as ADN, was the state news agency of the German Democratic Republic, holding a monopoly on news production and distribution across East Germany and supplying news, photographs and reports to the country newspapers, radio and television. It was established in October 1946 as a limited liability company with Soviet support, reorganized in 1953 into a government agency under the Socialist Unity Party, and headquartered in East Berlin with bureaus in all fifteen GDR districts and offices abroad. ADN did not survive long after German reunification in 1990, and was sold to the Deutsche Depeschendienst in May 1992 after shrinking to 254 employees.
