Cinecitta

Cinecitta is a major film studio complex in Rome, Italy, established in 1937 during the Fascist era with the aim of building up Italian film production and rivaling Hollywood. Covering about 400,000 square meters, it is considered Europe's largest film studio and has hosted productions by directors including Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone and Martin Scorsese, with more than 3,000 films made there and 47 Academy Award wins among its productions. During the 1950s the concentration of international productions filming there gave Rome the nickname Hollywood on the Tiber; the studio was a state-owned enterprise for most of its history before being partly privatized in 1997.
