UTV Motion Pictures is an Indian film production and distribution company headquartered in Mumbai, the film production arm of UTV Software Communications, a media company founded by Ronnie Screwvala. The Walt Disney Company acquired a majority stake in UTV in 2006 and completed a full acquisition in 2012, folding it into Disney's international operations. UTV Motion Pictures produced and distributed acclaimed Indian films including Rang De Basanti, Swades and the National Film Award-winning Peepli Live, and co-produced the internationally successful Lagaan, establishing itself as one of the more artistically ambitious major production houses in the Hindi film industry.
