Industrial Light & Magic

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is an American visual effects, computer animation and stereo conversion studio founded by George Lucas on May 26, 1975, created when he began production on the 1977 film Star Wars. The studio started in Van Nuys, California, moved to San Rafael in 1978, and has been based at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco since 2005. ILM operates as a division of Lucasfilm, the film production company Lucas also founded, which has been owned by the Walt Disney Company since 2012.
