Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc., which did business as 21st Century Fox or 21CF, was an American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate based in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was formed on June 28, 2013, as the legal successor to News Corporation, on the same day that a second News Corporation was spun off to hold Rupert Murdoch's print interests and other media assets in Australia. 21CF dealt primarily in the film and television industries. Its assets included the Fox Entertainment Group, which owned the 20th Century Fox film studio and the Fox television network, a 73 percent stake in National Geographic Partners, and significant foreign operations such as the Indian television channel operator Star India. Rupert Murdoch served as chairman, and his sons Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch later held the posts of co-executive chairman and chief executive officer. In December 2017 the Walt Disney Company agreed to acquire 21CF, and after a rival all-cash bid from Comcast it raised its offer to 71.3 billion dollars in cash and stock. Disney's acquisition closed on March 20, 2019, and the remaining assets, mainly the Fox and MyNetworkTV networks and local station, news and national sports assets, were spun out into a new company named Fox Corporation.
