PolyGram Filmed Entertainment, usually shortened to PFE, was the film arm of the Dutch music and entertainment group PolyGram N.V., established in 1992 to produce, acquire and finance feature films for release in theaters, on television and on home video. It grew by acquisition into four autonomous production labels, Propaganda, Working Title, Island Pictures and Interscope, and added television and video divisions and a large film catalog through the purchase of International Television Corporation Entertainment Group. PFE backed films including Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Usual Suspects and Trainspotting. Its sales were about 16 percent of PolyGram's total in 1996, it was still losing money that year but reached a profitable fourth quarter in 1997, and it described itself as the leading European film company. Philips Electronics owned 75 percent of the PolyGram group that PFE belonged to.
