Mosfilm is a film studio in Moscow that is among the largest and oldest in Russia and in Europe. It was founded in 1924 in the Soviet Union as a production unit of the state film monopoly. Its output includes most of the widely acclaimed Soviet-era films, including works by Andrei Tarkovsky and Sergei Eisenstein, Red Westerns, and the Akira Kurosawa co-production Dersu Uzala.
