Daiei Film is a Japanese film studio founded in 1942 as Dai Nippon Film Production and renamed Daiei in 1945. It became one of the major studios of the postwar Golden Age of Japanese cinema, producing both artistic works and popular franchises. The original company went bankrupt in 1971, was restructured by the publisher Tokuma Shoten in 1974, and was acquired by the publisher Kadokawa Shoten in 2002, with its operations transferred to the newly established Kadokawa Daiei Studio.
