Ritzau

Ritzau, formally Ritzaus Bureau A/S, is a Danish news agency founded in Copenhagen on 1 February 1866 by Erik Nicolai Ritzau under the original name Nordisk Centralbureau for Telegrammer, initially relaying international news received by telegraph from the Berlin based Wolffs Bureau, now known as Deutsche Presse Agentur. Erik Ritzau died in 1904, and his son Lauritz led the company from 1916 to 1958, until the Ritzau family sold the agency to Danish newspapers in 1947. Ritzau is now owned by 12 media groups, including the broadcaster DR and the publisher JP or Politikens Hus, restructured from a partnership into a corporation in 2012, and it collaborates with other Scandinavian news agencies to produce the English language Nordic News service. In 2018 it also acquired Scanpix Denmark, gaining a stock photography archive of more than 25 million images.
