Igor Ansoff

Igor Ansoff (1918 to 2002) was a Russian born American applied mathematician and business academic who is often called the father of strategic management. Born in Vladivostok, he trained as an engineer at the Stevens Institute of Technology before earning a doctorate at Brown University, and he went on to hold academic posts including at Carnegie Mellon University and Vanderbilt University. He is best known for developing the Ansoff Matrix, a framework for thinking about business growth strategy, and for his early work on corporate strategic planning and the concept of environmental turbulence.
